Exciting news for our engineering community! The University of Ruhuna has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Global GIS (Pvt) Ltd, the pioneer in geospatial positioning solutions in Sri Lanka, bringing cutting-edge surveying and satellite-positioning technology to our campus.
Led by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, the partnership will drive joint research, product commercialization, and consulting in surveying and geospatial technologies. The signing was led by Vice-Chancellor Snr. Prof. P. A. Jayantha, alongside university officials and Global GIS CEO–Managing Director Nishshanka De Silva and CTO–Director Jeewan Suranga.
Under the MoU, Global GIS will establish a high-precision GNSS Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) on the University premises, strengthening our capacity for advanced satellite-based research. The agreement also brings:
- Funding support for research and development.
- Commercialization expertise to turn inventions into market-ready solutions.
- Training and internships for undergraduates in surveying and geospatial technologies.
- Access to the latest equipment from leading international brands.
For our students and researchers, this means industry-grade technology, professional mentorship, and a direct pathway from the classroom to national-scale engineering projects, positioning our Faculty of Engineering at the forefront of geospatial innovation in Sri Lanka.
