Academics from the Faculty of Engineering achieved remarkable recognition at the Vice Chancellor’s Awards and Academic Sessions 2026 held at the University of Ruhuna on 4 March 2026.
Professor Tushara Chaminda was honoured with the prestigious Orator of the Year title for his outstanding oration entitled “The Contribution of Pharmaceutical Pollutants in Sri Lankan Waters to Antibiotic Resistance.” The award recognizes excellence in scholarly presentation and impactful research communication.

In addition, Dr. Kushan Sudheera received the Most Outstanding Young Researcher Award at the Vice Chancellor’s Awards and Academic Sessions 2026. This award is presented in recognition of exceptional research performance and academic contributions by researchers under the age of 40.

The Faculty of Engineering also celebrated success in the technical presentation sessions.
Mr. R. Saahith Ahamad won the Best Presenter Award in the Engineering, Technology, and Applied Sciences Technical Session, while Dr. H.G.S. Mayuranga received the Best Presenter Award in Engineering, Technology, and Applied Sciences (Session 3).
These achievements reflect the Faculty’s continued commitment to excellence in research, innovation, and academic scholarship. The Faculty of Engineering congratulates all award recipients for bringing honour and recognition to the Faculty and the University through their outstanding accomplishments.
