The Computer Engineering Society (ComES) of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, successfully organized AgenTrix 2026, a national-level Agentic AI hackathon that brought together 40 undergraduate teams from government and private universities across Sri Lanka. As the first major initiative organized by ComES since its establishment in 2026, the competition reflected the Society’s commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and practical learning in emerging technologies.
The competition challenged participants to design and develop intelligent AI-powered solutions during a 12-hour hackathon held at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. Working within newly assigned problem domains, teams developed innovative applications using modern AI technologies, including Agentic AI, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and multi-agent systems. Following the hackathon, industry professionals conducted comprehensive code reviews and technical defence sessions to evaluate the authenticity, innovation, and technical quality of each solution. The top ten teams advanced to the Grand Finale, held at the National Olympic Auditorium, Colombo, on 30 July 2026, where they presented their projects in a Shark Tank-style pitching competition before an expert panel of academics and industry leaders.
Team AGENTleMEN from the University of Ruhuna emerged as the champions with MedoraAI, an AI-powered multi-agent healthcare coordination platform, while Team AlphaZero, also from the University of Ruhuna, secured the Second Runner-Up position, highlighting the University’s excellence in AI innovation.
Supported by Gold Partner SLT-MOBITEL, Silver Partners Creative Software and WSO2, and Beverage Partner Lakcafe, AgenTrix 2026 strengthened collaboration between academia and industry. As the first national competition organized by ComES, the event marked a significant milestone for the Society and reinforced the University of Ruhuna’s reputation as a leading institution promoting technological advancement, student leadership, and innovation-driven education.
