Mr. N.H.D.S. Manawadu was awarded the prestigious BOC Gold Medal for the Master of Philosophy degree, presented to the scholar who published the highest number of research papers in Q1-ranked, peer-reviewed indexed journals with the highest SCImago Journal Ranking (SJR). He received this honour at the 32nd Convocation of the University of Ruhuna, held in December 2025.
Mr. Manawadu conducted comprehensive research in the field of wave energy conversion under the guidance of Prof. H.C.P. Karunasena, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, and Dr. I.D. Nissanka, Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa. His thesis highlights the global potential of wave energy absorption, with particular emphasis on Sri Lankan coastal conditions, achieved through innovative design adaptations. He is recognised as a pioneer both locally and internationally for applying advanced SPH numerical modelling techniques to optimise wave energy converter geometries.
