The Thirteenth (13th) Session of the “INSPIRE” Webinar Series, which the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies organized to guide engineering undergraduates on the topic “Do you like to be a CEO”, was successfully held via Zoom on 29th August 2024 from 7.00 PM to 8.30 PM with the active participation of undergraduates of the faculty. The resource person, Eng. Professor Ananda Jayawardane is a senior professor in civil engineering at the University of Moratuwa and an eminent engineering professional in Sri Lanka who has demonstrated the expertise in both academia and industry as a leader. He has held many leading positions in various organizations during the past years. Prof. Ananda Jayawardane is a former vice-chancellor of the University of Moratuwa and a past president of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka. Furthermore, he served as the chairman of the Commercial Bank PLC in Sri Lanka and the National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka. Currently, he has been recognized as a leading key note speaker in Sri Lanka because of his exceptional communication skills.
During the webinar, he shared his valuable life experience and lessons learned in his professional life to guiding engineering undergraduates on how to become a CEO. He has revealed many strategies for engineering undergraduates to enhance their skills in the path of becoming a CEO. As well as he highlighted the importance of developing leadership, public relations skills and communication skills within the undergraduates while sharing numerous experiences of his life. He further requested from students to get updated with the latest trends in the engineering field relevant to their disciplines. Hence, it was a productive session for the students, allowing them to learn from a renowned senior professor and an engineer in Sri Lanka to drive their professional journeys into success. Five talented engineering undergraduates in 2nd year played the following roles to make it a successful webinar.
