Two undergraduates from the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, G.D.P. Jayawardhana and W.M.I. Weerasooriya, successfully completed an Erasmus+ exchange programme at the University of Agder (UiA), Norway, during the spring 2026 semester.
Based at UiA’s Grimstad campus, the students had the opportunity to experience a high-quality international academic environment while representing the University of Ruhuna in Norway. The exchange enabled them to broaden their academic knowledge, engage with students and lecturers from diverse backgrounds, and experience a different approach to university education and research.
In addition to their academic activities, the students experienced Norwegian culture, everyday life, and the country’s natural environment. Interacting with people from different countries helped them develop greater independence, confidence, adaptability, and intercultural communication skills. The exchange also provided valuable opportunities to establish international friendships and academic connections.
Reflecting on the experience, the students expressed their gratitude to the University of Ruhuna, the University of Agder, and the Erasmus+ Global Mobility Programme for making this opportunity possible. They also acknowledged the support and guidance provided by the academic and administrative staff of both universities throughout the programme.
Their participation demonstrates the value of international academic mobility in developing globally competent graduates. They hope that their experience will encourage other University of Ruhuna students to pursue international opportunities, embrace new challenges, and represent the university confidently on the global stage.
