
The Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, is proud to announce that the project “iHeart: Multi-modal Cardiac Monitor for Emerging AI Health Applications” secured 2nd Place at the National AI Awards 2026 under the Innovation & Future Focus Category – University AI Innovation Award.
The National AI Awards 2026, organized by SLT-MOBITEL in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy, provides a national platform to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievements and innovations in artificial intelligence across Sri Lanka.
iHeart is an innovative multi-modal cardiac monitoring system designed to integrate multiple physiological signals for advanced cardiac assessment and emerging AI-based healthcare applications.
The project was carried out under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Arjuna Madanayake and Dr. Chatura Seneviratne, with the dedicated efforts and collaboration of the student project team.
This national-level recognition highlights the Faculty’s continued commitment to advancing artificial intelligence, biomedical engineering, healthcare technology, and student-led innovation. The Faculty congratulates the project team and supervisors on this remarkable achievement and extends its appreciation to SLT-MOBITEL and the Ministry of Digital Economy for providing a valuable platform to recognize and encourage AI-driven innovation in Sri Lanka.
