Non-Invasive Screening Tool to Detect Anemia

Hemoglobin concentration is a vital parameter used to detect abnormalities in the human body including anemia and polycythemia. Currently, invasive techniques are used for hemoglobin measurement despite their many disadvantages including discomfort and potential complications for the pregnant, elderly and pediatric patients. Therefore, we focused on measuring the hemoglobin concentration without drawing blood.

Overview
Hemoglobin is an important constituent of the human blood responsible for gaseous transportation in the respiratory process. The changes in hemoglobin concentration (Hb) below or above normal levels affect the overall function of human body leading to Anemia or Polycythemia respectively. Anemia affects 1.62 billion people worldwide. Anemia caused by iron deficiency has a very high prevalence in developing nations in Asia. Therefore, measurement of blood hemoglobin concentration is important for the diagnosis of these diseases.
