The University of Ruhuna is one of the leading universities in Sri Lanka. The University of Ruhuna was established by a special presidential Decree on 1st September 1978 as Ruhuna University college fulfilling a long cherished desire of the people of Southern Sri Lanka.
Today the University of Ruhuna has a proud history of about 40 years and the University consists of 10 faculties and 57 departments.
The Faculty of Engineering of University of Ruhuna was established on 1st July 1999 at Hapugala, Galle. First batch of students was admitted on 27th March 2000. This is the third conventional Faculty of Engineering in Sri Lanka after those at University of Peradeniya and University of Moratuwa.
The Faculty has four academic departments, namely the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Information Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
The Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka was established in the year 1999 with offering 3 general engineering degree programs specialized in civil and enviorenmental , mechanical and manufacturing and electrical and information engineering fields. The annual student intake of the faculty, which was 100 at the inception, is at present 250.
The annual student intake of the faculty, which was 100 at the inception, is 530 at present with the introduction of the Computer Engineering and Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture degree programs.
