Programme Review 2022
The programme review of the three degree programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna was completed with all three engineering programmes receiving a high level of accomplishment of quality with high “A” grades.
The three degree programmes namely; Bachelor of the Science of Engineering in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bachelor of the Science of Engineering in Electrical and Information Engineering and Bachelor of the Science of Engineering in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering went through this Programme Review process.
This Programme Review was conducted by the UGC appointed four-member review panel consisted of senior academic staff members including Prof. Prof KTMU Hemapala (University of Moratuwa), Prof RARC Gopura (University of Moratuwa), Prof Nayanthara De Silva (University of Moratuwa) and Dr APR Wickramarachchi (University of Kelaniya). The Programme Review process was started with the submission of a Self-Evaluation Report to the UGC. Documentary evidence provided by the three degree programmes, information obtained through stakeholder meetings, observations of teaching/practical sessions and inspection of infrastructure facilities were considered for the evaluation by the panel. After reviewing the documentary evidence submitted by the faculty, the review panel paid a two-day visit to the faculty on the 27th and 28th of September 2022.
As it can be seen in the reviewers’ report, the reviewers are impressed with how the programme review was facilitated, how evidence documents were organized, and how they were treated. For this, the review panel has commended the IQAC team especially the staff members assigned to support the review panel. Also, the review panel appreciates the availability of well-experienced academic staff members and, the existence of well- defined and documented process for the management of each academic programme. The review panel has also commended the strong networking of the faculty with the industry through Industrial Consultative Committees and, the student feedback through Student Consultative Committees in each degree programme. The industry- oriented research and final year projects as well as the Soft Skills development programmes have also been appraised by the panel. As fully accredited degree programmes by the Washington Accord, all these degree programmes deserve to succeed and, the receipt of “A” grades gives lots of encouragement to work on continuous quality improvement in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna.
