The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a rich and diverse program for undergraduate students and postgraduate programs in two areas of specialization for graduates who wish to pursue higher studies. Our research and teaching span the modern civil and environmental engineering spectrum, with major emphasis points in structures, geotechnics, hydraulics, environment and infrastructure planning and management.
Every year 125 students receive the opportunity to specialize in Civil and Environmental Engineering. The undergraduate programme of the department is fully accredited under Washington accord from year 2010.
The Department of Electrical and Information Engineering has been offering B.Sc.Eng. in Electrical and Information Engineering degree program for 20+ years. The degree program covers broad categories of Electrical and Power Engineering, Networking and Telecommunication Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Software Engineering.
It is designed with the aim of producing versatile and employable graduates who have expertise in multiple disciplines. The degree program has the IESL recognition from the inception and it obtained the full IESL international accreditation under the Washington Accord from 2010.
The Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The Department is committed to providing high-quality education and research opportunities to its students. The annual enrolment of undergraduates in the Department is 100. The undergraduate program in Mechanical Engineering provides students with a strong foundation in the Fundamentals of Applied Mechanics, Workshop Technologies, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Heat & Mass Transfer, Computer Aided Design (CAD) & Manufacturing (CAM), Production Engineering, Material Engineering, Control, Automation, Automobile, Robotics, Mechatronics and Machine & Product Design.
The undergraduate programme of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering has been fully accredited under the Washington Accord since the year 2010.
The Department of Electrical and Information Engineering recently started a new degree program in Computer Engineering from 2020. Computer Engineering covers many trending Engineering topics in both Computer Science and Electronic domains, including Software Engineering, Cyber Security, Electronics, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The intake for Computer Engineering is 200, which is the highest intake of students for a degree program in the faculty.
Department of Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture is a young department in the Faculty of Engineering which commenced offering the BSc Eng in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture program in April 2022.
The degree program offers both academic and professional modules according to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention). The department is currently in the process of obtaining ISO 9001:2018 quality standards for the department. Recognition for the program from the Merchant Shipping Secretariat (MSS) and the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) shall be obtained in due course.
