The students of the 22nd batch of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, embarked on an industry exploration journey, visiting leading technology companies such as PickMe, Creative Software, WSO2, and 99X.
Field visit to PickMe
Under the banner of the 28th of November, bright minds embarked on a transformative field visit to the esteemed halls of PickMe.
The field visit to PickMe not only provided students with a glimpse into the workings of a leading tech company but also equipped them with practical knowledge and real-world insights essential for their future careers. Their expertise spanned from product requirements to technical design, ensuring quality, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
Field visit to creative software
Under the illustrious date of November 24th 2023, a cohort of students undertook on a transformative journey to Creative Software, immersing themselves in a full-day program designed to illuminate the intricacies of industry dynamics.
Throughout this enriching visit, students delved into the industrial ecosystem, gaining invaluable insights into the working culture that drives innovation at Creative Software. Moreover, they had the privilege of exploring the company’s esteemed partnership with Pegero, further enriching their understanding of collaborative ventures within the tech landscape.
The day’s agenda was replete with the sessions tailored to equip students with essential career-building skills. Beginning with a comprehensive workshop on CV writing, followed by valuable guidance on preparing for internships and honing coding prowess, students found themselves well-prepared for the professional journey ahead.
The session on CVs proved particularly beneficial, addressing students’ concerns as they charted their course towards imminent internships. To cap off the day on an interactive note, a stimulating game was organized, offering students a hands-on experience in understanding the nuances of agile methodology.
Field visit to WSO2
WSO2 is a leading product company specializing in open-source integration and API management solutions, driving innovation and excellence in the digital realm.
During the field visit to WSO2 on 18th of December, Students learned about the company, its background and different job roles and their hierarchy within the company. They also discovered the career paths and opportunities available for them.
Field visit to 99x
During a recent field visit on March 27th, students had the privilege of exploring the operations of 99X, it is not only a software company but also Engineering production company which means they make software for European companies with diverse team.
Throughout the visit, students received a comprehensive briefing on 99X’s adoption of Agile methodology, bolstered by the Kanban framework, as the bedrock for efficient product delivery. Led by the esteemed HR representative, Anura Adikari, the session not only shed light on the company’s operational strategies but also offered invaluable insights into securing coveted internships at 99X.
