MEDICUS+: Robot for Remote Patient Monitoring and Real Time Communication: Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at University of Ruhuna has developed a medical robot which will allow for doctors to remotely diagnose patients using temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen and ECG, with two way audio-video communication. This was unveiled to the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya today. Project is led by Eng. Chatum Sankalpa (Principal Investigator), Dr. (Eng) Subodha Gunawardena (Co-Investigator) and Dr. (Eng) Noeline Prins (Co-Investigator) with collaborations from Dr. Upul Hapuarachchi (Faculty of Medicine) and Dr. Janaka Ranaweera (Teaching Hospital Karapitiya). Team consisted of Eng. Keshawa Madhubhanu, Eng. Manuja Priyadharshana, Eng. Amila Nuwan Sanjeewa, Eng. Ruchira Lakshan Perera, Eng. Manikya Senarathne, Eng. Tharindu Gamage, Mr. Himal Dinuka (Student – Faculty of Technology) and Mr. Melakshan Jayarathne (Student – Efac). We wish to thank Dr. Sampath Ranaweera (Director) and staff at the Teaching Hospital Karapitiya for the assistance given to demonstrate this at the hospital, Biomedical Engineer Mr. Indika Yasan for liasing with the Health Services and Dr. Chandima Sirithunga (Provincial Director) for his approvals. We are currently developing v2.0 with the feedback and comments given by the medical personnel.
