The department faced the stage 1 of the ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System audit conducted by IRCLASS Indian Register of shipping on 04.10.2024. They recommended us to go for the stage II with several commendations as well as recommendation. The department needs to attend the recommendations within 90 days. On behalf of the department, I wish to thank our staff members, specially, Mr. Veditha de Silva senior lecturer attached to the department, for their tireless work to prepare the documents required for the audit. Also, I would like to sincerely thank our QMS consultant, Ms. Delisha Wijertna, temporary lecturer attached to ITUM, for her valuable guidance and assistance given for the document preparation. Further, I express thank to external resource persons, chief marine engineers who are conducting professional modules in the programme for their support in module binder preparation as per the IMO requirements. Finally, I wish to thank our final year students and the non-academic staff members for their tremendous support in preparation of documents and laboratories toward this audit.
