Teams from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, showcased exceptional innovation and technical skill at the Innovate with Ballerina 2025<\/em> competition organized by the IEEE Student Branch of University of Moratuwa and WSO2, with the grand finale held on October 6, 2025, at WSO2.<\/p>\n

Out of more than 500 teams from universities across Sri Lanka, three teams from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna, were selected among the top 15 finalists, demonstrating the faculty\u2019s strong capabilities in modern software engineering and cloud-native development.<\/p>\n

Team OrByte \u2013 First Runners-Up<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Team OrByte<\/em> achieved the First Runners-Up position. The team – Tharindu Jayawardhana , Tharindu Galpayage, Dulshan Siriwardhana, and Sahan Gawesh , developed E-Rides, a platform designed to address urban mobility challenges through electric bike rentals that bridge the \u201clast mile\u201d gap and help reduce carbon emissions. The solution aims to make daily commuting more convenient and environmentally friendly for urban residents.<\/p>\n

Team MIMH \u2013 Green-Proxy<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Team MIMH<\/em>, comprising Malith Pramoditha, Taneesha Iyenshi, Hashith Sithuruwan, and Monilka Rajapaksha, presented Green-Proxy, an intelligent and lightweight API proxy designed to reduce the carbon footprint of digital services. The system dynamically routes incoming traffic to the cloud region with the lowest real-time carbon intensity, making applications greener without sacrificing performance.<\/p>\n

Team OASIS \u2013 Tax-App<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Team OASIS<\/em>, represented by Isuru Amarasena, Sahan Mihikalpa and Oshani Sooriyaarachchi, introduced Tax-App, a system that transforms how tax processes are built and maintained. It automates PAYE, Income Tax, and VAT workflows in Sri Lanka by converting complex tax documents into fully functional calculators within minutes. The solution integrates document ingestion, LLM-assisted rule aggregation, and tax computation to provide efficient and transparent tax services.<\/p>\n

The achievements of these three teams underscore the University of Ruhuna\u2019s commitment to nurturing innovation and excellence in technology.
